Prior to her election as Councillor for Division 7, Diane Forsyth was the Director of the Addiction Help Agency in Westcourt for eleven years and was responsible for delivering high quality programs for people with drug problems. Before this she was employed by a youth agency, ran her own restaurant, worked in both the public service (Education) and private industry. Diane is also an active volunteer for many worthy causes and organisations. She has two grown up daughters, one of whom lives with her.

Diane’s involvement with the following community organizations, in many of which she held an executive position, stands her in good stead as a Councillor.

  • National Vice-President, Association of Solution Oriented Counsellors and Hypnotherapists of Australia
  • Queensland Council of Unions, Vice President
  • Queensland Network of Alcohol and Drug Associations Board Member
  • Past President of the Cairns Women’s Information and Referral Service
  • Representative, FNQ Ministerial Regional Community Forum
  • Represented the Human Services Sector on the FNQ2010 Regional Planning Advisory Committee

Since being elected to Council, Diane has visited many residents to assist with their issues including; flooding and drainage problems; traffic calming; development approvals; road works; footpaths and many more.  On a broader regional level, Diane has been involved in Community Engagement activities; Cairns Bicycle Users’ Group; developing a cultural plan for the region; Port Douglas waterfront planning and the Daintree Summit.

Division 7 has many sporting venues and Diane is proud to support the new Tennis Facility for the region based at North Cairns Sporting Precinct.  She has also been involved with the new master plan of Endeavour Park (Manunda Sporting Precinct).

Diane is a Council representative on several community committees; Friends of Cominos House; Cairns Cultural Co-ordinating Association and Edge Hill Traders Association.  She chairs the Council’s Community Safety Committee and is a member of the Sister Cities Committee and the Local disaster Management Group.

Diane remains committed to the Cairns First core vision of retaining the character and unique tropical lifestyle of Cairns that is so attractive to the people who live here and those who visit, and of developing a sense of community and pride in our achievements and identity, achieving this by balancing social well-being and environmental quality with sustainable economic development.
